The gallery says, "In Sole to Soul, the shoes are formed into circles expressing the concept of lotus blossoms which die and flower again. The styles and colors of the shoes dictate the form; the blossoms range in diameter from 4 to 7 feet."
Willie Cole's art is about acts of transformation and transcendence. I can see how this work illustrates the idea of "transformation", and his manipulation of found materials is amazing.


Check out more Willie Cole. Also, doesn't it reference back a little to the Crinoline Flowers? Maybe it's the circular form of both works.
for a sec i thought they were those japanese fabric flowers and thought they were cool. and now that i know they're shoes, i like them even more.
