When asked to contribute to “Things I have learned in my life so far” Marian Bantjes wrote the phrase "If I want to explore a new direction professionally, it is helpful to try it out for myself first” in sugar. Yep - pure sugar. Bantjes made the phrase five times, photographed it, and then destroyed it and photographed the destroyed version. The results are truly amazing...and sweet!Check out more projects by Marian Bantjes including graphic and text work.

ReplyDeleteI love this :) What a concept!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I love the quote almost as much as the sugar construction :)
Sugar? I was trying to figure it out. How unique! It's lovely. I would like invitations printed up to look like that. It's gorgeous.
ReplyDeletenot that "printing" would have nearly the same perfect and sweet look. hmm.
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness! i totally love that and want to do it, now.
ReplyDeleteholy cow that's incredible!
ReplyDeleteI can't remember where I first saw this but was truly amazed by the project. Might be time for a little sugar rush for me...cookie, perhaps? Hope you're having a great day, Diana.
ReplyDeleteabsolutely incredible. wonderfully inspirational and an oh so sweet exercise in creativity, patience and self-consciousness. great find....
ReplyDeleteWow, those are gorgeous! What an exercise in patience...
ReplyDeleteTotally has left me on a high! what amazing work and how beautiful the result is!
ReplyDeleteI want to read this book now- thanks for the link! The whole sugar project intrigues me. It seems so creative and therapeutic at the same time...
ReplyDeleteAt first I thought this was a wedding invitation...then I realized it wasn't...then I realized it would make a very cool invite - either photographed or done second-grade style w/ a bit of glue and sugar. Although I'm doubtful the effect would be quite so beautiful, the glue would no doubt dissolve the sugar and then I'd give someone a globular-looking sticky mess.
ReplyDeleteBut it's the thought that counts, eh?
amazing! i thought is was flocked at first...but sugar? i love it!
ReplyDeleteGlad you like - yes, the time, can you imagine?
ReplyDeleteThat amazes me -- to write that out in sugar?!?! Lovely.
ReplyDeleteSweet (pun intended)! ☺
ReplyDeleteMy word, that's passion!
ReplyDeletei can't imagine how long this must have taken her to create. i love when artists go on totally unexpected paths like this. beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHow do you find what you find? I love this...the words and the sweet sugar!
ReplyDeleteThat looks really neat!
ReplyDeleteWow! Something worth trying but I know my results would look nothing like that. That's patience!
ReplyDeleteso pretty and sweet!
ReplyDeletei love the idea of art that is temporal. Such a powerful idea about creation and destruction--a letting go of the ego..such interesting work...
ReplyDeleteAt first I thought it was white on white embroidery, but this is much sweeter, (sorry I coulnd't resist.)
ReplyDelete... A true labor of love!
A great idea, yes! and sweet!
ReplyDeletenow that is just incredible!!
ReplyDeleteSo creative -- love this.
ReplyDeleteit is like those mandalas that tibetan monks make. very intricate and when they're done, all goes to the wind.
