I'm dusting off Please Sir and slowly returning to the blogosphere with new aspirations and inspiring ideas. I apologize for the long absence, but I needed a little transition time for my new job (yay!). I'm excited and nervous all at the same time. I will have more responsibility, but I look forward to the challenges and creative fuel ahead. One can dream for it all, right?! The new Meridian jewelry collection by Von Kottwitz is full of fantasy, luxury, romance and industrial measures. Pearls and rhinestones beautifully blend with nickel hardware to create a perfect mix of high & low art. I'm amazed by the creative use of materials, plus these versatile pieces could easily be paired with jeans or a fancy dress.

Saskia Leek

It's a bright new year and I'm feeling inspired by the distinct color palette and subject matter created by New Zealand artist Saskia Leek. These are just two examples of her work, but we can see that through color and abstraction a discernible subject, like the home, can take on many different perspectives. Leek's contrasting pieces encourage me to experiment and change up some of my own work and outlooks this year.

Laura Konttinen

The Memory Project by Laura Konttinen is "a collection of reconstructed memories, built from, and into, photographs." Konttinen's work instantly drew me in because I can fully relate to those emotions and blurry bits of nostalgia found within our memories. I'm fascinated by the way Konttinen took a complex concept and put it into beautiful, tangible forms.

The Memory Project has also inspired my new year. As I draw closer to midnight it's only natural to reflect on last year's memories and feel a sense of renewal mixed with fear. I would normally want to evaluate, calculate, make lists and think of ways to improve...but just thinking about that makes me want to hide under last year's covers. This new year I'll try something different and let things go, listen more to my gut and remember the memories that make me...well me. Thank you so much for being apart of those memories and I look forward to many more. Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas

In the holiday spirit, I transformed the Green Valley wreath one more time with vintage postcards, small clothespins, book pages and letterpress letters. I have a new appreciation for old Christmas postcards especially ones with wintry landscape scenes. They look so quaint and nostalgic! You can also easily personalize your wreath with family photographs or holiday cards to enjoy during the new year.

This time of year can be difficult, but I hope you take a moment and embrace the little joys this holiday season. One of my joys is a new tradition my family started which includes lighting a candle in honor of my Mom while we exchange gifts. The candle symbolizes her eternal love and presence during the holiday season and throughout the year. This comforting gesture means the world to me and is one of several new traditions I plan on carrying out for years to come. I would love to hear the holiday joys you are experiencing.

Hello, hello! I've been a little under the weather recently and all I want to do is hibernate inside the beautiful interiors by Dave Coote. I'm excited for Thanksgiving this week because there will be plenty of family, food, drinking and time off from work. All things I love! Plus, Dave and I are staying in a bed & breakfast for the holiday and it will be my first B&B experience. I can't wait! To curve my turkey cravings, I'm finding Thanksgiving inspiration from images filled with pops of orange, falling leaves and vintage hints. I also love the addition of teal colored pieces to your Fall table setting and wardrobe to break up the traditional orange and yellow color scheme.

How are you getting ready for the holiday? And yes, having a cocktail does count!

Vintage Find

I finally had the chance to photograph one of my vintage goodies purchased at the Metrolina - an old hand-painted sign from a hardware store. I believe the sign was never used because it was supposed to be cut down and folded to look like an over-sized seed packet. I'm glad they left it as is! I immediately feel in love with the sign's handmade quality, large scale, worn edges and beautiful colors. Plus, there was a bonus photo-op with my vintage wooden chairs and Brownie camera. On a styling note I originally placed the camera, a jacket and books on the chairs, but I felt like it was too cluttered and took away from the sign's focus. I'm slowly learning and experimenting and I hope you enjoy the end results! Here's to beautiful flowers in your home all year round...
