I'm not that kind of person

As I was pulling up my wet hair and applying make-up at work (because I was running late) I realized I am not a put-together person. I can be with several days notice and a 2 hour + ready time, but in general....I'm not that kind of person.

I enjoy watching girly TV shows like Cashmere Mafia, Lipstick Jungle, and the ultimate fav Sex in the City, but am I supposed to look like those women? They are actresses with make-up artists, stylists, and an endless wardrobe. My budget definitely doesn't stretch that far, and I don't want to wake up at 4 a.m. just to look hot and sexy for the rest of the day.

My co-worker wears a different outfit EVERYDAY. Yes everyday, and they are nice, expensive type clothes. How does she afford this? Where does all her clothes go after the one day mark? Can I have them? I'm perplexed by this since I wear similar outfits each week, or the occasional mix-it-up-my-normal-clothes-are-dirty outfit. I don't look like a slob...I own cute shirts, but I'm not super fancy all the time either.

I partly envy the put-together people out there. A part of me would love to look glamorous all the time, but the other part of me wants to wear pajamas and not blow dry my hair.

Does appearance really matter? Are you a put-together person?

I am not put together at all! At times I wish I was THAT kind of person, but in reality, I'm glad I'm not.

I am the same way. I wear the same clothes every week, and they aren't stylish. My hair and makeup are pretty plain and I love wearing my pajamas. This would be fine except that I am a "designer" and should try to be up on things, but quite frankly don't seem to care. Oh well. Don't be hard on yourself. Great blog!

Stephanie - I KNOW what you MEAN! I'm a designer too and feel like I need to look designer-ish. Yeah, not going to happen anytime soon...I'm pretty plain on hair/makeup. Do you have a blog?

I'd love a uniform so I can spend time living.
After all beauty is skin deep!

I'm kind of put together. I really do enjoy clothes and make-up so it's fun for me to put a look together. But I work from home so I don't need to fix myself up that much. Because I do blog about personal style sometimes, that has helped me step it up in that department. But I think it has to be something that comes naturally. If you don't enjoy the process then what's the point?

pve - a comfortable uniform would be interesting - love it.

kate - envy you! I love fashion and clothes, but not necessary for myself...more like I appreciate them. You're right, if it ain't your thing don't force it.

It depends. There are weeks I go wearing nothing but jeans, boots and a sweater, a uniform of sorts. Then suddenly I will have a flash of inspiration and put togteher something different and cute. That doesn't happen as much as I would like it to though.

Hmm...I'm half put together. I have rules for myself...like, never go outside in something that resembles pajamas unless I'm going to yoga. I try to look nice most of the time. But I can't afford to have the fanciest of clothes or a huge number of them, so I do what I can with what I have. My mood is really affected by how I feel about myself - and I feel better about myself when I look better...so that's my motivation. But I definitely don't think think that comfort has to be sacrificed for beauty.

Hi Diana,
I do have a blog, it is pretty new. I am so loving the experience of it but am struggling with what I want the content to be.

my philosophy is wear what works - over and over - maybe I stretch it - but i like to feel comfortable - i change the "uniform" with the seasons but tend to wear my stable of outfits over and over - and the favorites I wear to death, literally, holes in the elbow, hems worn through, knees split - luckily I haven't split a backside yet!

I used to be the person who went to the grocery store in sweats, ballcap and no makeup, but then I got this high-profile job and I would invariably run into local clients (and their well-dressed nannies) looking like a wreck! So now I do not leave the house on weekends unless I am in what I call the What Not To Wear Uniform (from the TLC show): jeans, boots w/heel (or wedge sandals in summer), tee and blazer. If there is no time for makeup, there is always time for ponytail, Jackie O sunglasses and lipgloss. Once you commit to this it is surprisingly easy to do. No one ever notices that it is the SAME black blazer.

ps - thanks for vising my blog Diana!

I'm all about some sunglasses - sometimes I wish I could wear them inside without people thinking I'm crazy!

I think im the put together person when it comes to my home or to entertaining...but when it comes to fashion, no way.

I wear the same boring outfits again and again. And I feel like most people are the same way. Who are these people that have the kind of time to shop, blow dry their hair, put on makeup and walk the streets in heels all day? I don't know them.
