Tuesday Life

Hi guys! If you are visiting from sk*rt...welcome and I hope you enjoy the vintage finds below. Thank you SimpleSong for adding the article to sk*rt!

The "real" job has been hectic, so last night I didn't get a chance to photograph my vintage goodies from the Liberty Antique Festival. They will be posted soon, but in the meantime I wanted to share with you some other finds.

While browsing sk*rt I saw an article for a new software called SCANALOG, a CD-ROM software system used to store, catalog and retrieve your favorite articles from magazines ($49.95 for package). From what I understand, you scan in your images and save them under different categories ranging from Home Decoration to Gardening to My Spirit. If you are a magazine addict and need a new way to organize...this might be a solution. Have you tried it? How do you organize your magazine clippings?

Speaking of clippings, here's one for the inspiration folder...check out these great curtains from Emdee Home Collection. They were on display at the Furniture Market and are beautiful....for the top two curtains each element is individually sewn on creating a lovely effect. Velvet flock, shown in the last image, was also a big trend on wallpaper, pillows, and duvet sets.

... i am definitely a magazine junkie, and to curb my appetite i have a notebook into which i paste all the clippings and stuff - curtains - i can't afford. i call it "inspiration".

I have tried a bunch of different ways to organize my reference. I am a magazine junkie, and I am also a ripper. Yup, even the most beautiful magazines get their guts ripped out. I have tried filing my reference in folders, and I have tried keeping them nice and pretty in sleeved binders and other organized fashions. I finally found the best thing for me. I bought some of those plastic storage drawers from staples. It has 6 drawers in it and wheels which is really nice. I try to keep the drawers organized...one for holiday, one for floral, interiors, accessories, etc. I just rip and store. They are super easy to grab and look at, and there is no pressure of having to put them away or file them. Just stick them in the drawer. Oh and the drawers are the perfect size too. Hope this helps. The software sounds nice, but way too time consuming. The thought of having all of my reference organized on my computer is a dream, but I know myself way too well...I'll never get to it. It will pile up next to my scanner. Great topic as usual.

I used to keep whole magazines, then when I moved I went through them and found that my tastes had evolved enough that I couldn't remember why I had saved those particular issues. Now I'm in a smaller place and don't have the space to hoard as many mags. So I fold down the pages I like and put them aside. If in 6 months I still like the room, item, recipe, whatever, I either keep the mag or rip out the page. If I can't remember why I liked it, I toss it. But even this gets to be time consuming, so my newly-instituted plan is to fold down the corner of the pages I like, look whatever it is up online when I'm done with the mag, bookmark the item (in my freakishly well-organized bookmarks) and toss/giveaway the mag.

Thanks guys - Stephanie Ryan and Robin - great magazine organizing tips! I love the drawer idea...easy and simple. The organized bookmarks sound equally exciting! Is it weird to be excited about organizing?

i love the scanalog software - i've never seen anything like it! i usually tear pages out of magazines and stash them in a folder (which i usually forget about). what a fantastic way to stay organized.

Love those first curtains! They remind me of a wedding dress from the first season of Project Runway. I think the dress got the designer kicked off the show...but...those curtains are a winner! :)
