These images are from the Sally Scott Autumn & Winter Collection. The clothes are fabulous and the photographs are like snapshots into this cool girl's life. I want to hang out with her because we like the same things - antiquing, canoeing and bike riding. The site also has short videos of her doing these actions...like you are really there with her. This marketing is brilliant. I dare to even call it marketing because it borders on artistic expression.
I'm not a specialist in advertising, but I'm a consumer. If I'm debating about purchasing a vintage find or expensive jacket that little story might convince me to go for it. Isn't that one of the reasons we enjoy shopping on sites like etsy? We may enjoy the seller's blog or feel compelled to further their business because it is a real person with a story.
If you are starting a business or selling a product don't forget to think about the story you are conveying to your customers. Obviously the product is important, so why not present it in the best possible way?

Great advice and just great pictures. I like her too.
Agreed - we are narrative beings, and I think any time a story can be attached to something, we can place ourself in those circumstances much more easily.
You are so right. It's the subtext / context of the product that makes it special...
I agree with you whole-heartedly. I will purchase something with background over something without any day! Love the photos :)
She looks like she's really pondering those beakers, as I'm sure you would be as well!
i work in marketing and couldn't agree more. it's great how these images convey a story with no text. love it.
I think the photo series makes you curious about her life as well. It is a good way to keep people coming back to see what's new if the "story" continues in the advertising.
That is so true -- I'm always more compelled to buy something if I like the layout of the picture, the description, the feel of the shop, etc. There is an art to it all!
Beautiful! I want to hang out with her as well. And it's so true about Etsy. That's one of my favorite things about shopping there. I love the little stories and backgrounds that sellers add to their products!
True, so true. Great advice.
I totally, totally agree with this! These are lovely shots, and the mood and story they convey is something I want to jump right into!
The 'stories' really show how functional the pieces are.....showing that she can do all sorts of stuff while being stylish.....
I wish some of that would rub off on me.....
those photos are so dreamy. They suck you right in. I'm working on my etsy store as we speak ...er, blog. I've been putting it off for probably two years now but I'm almost ready now :) Great advice.
right on! presentation and packaging are half the product!
You are SO right. And I bet that's why I heart etsy so much. (Or at least one of the reasons). And…props to you for noticing the new blog header I put up in the middle of the night on a caffeine-fueled all-night bender. ;-)
i agree, i too am drawn to the product because of the photos. so pretty and unique!
totally agree with you. i adore the pink sweater and the yellow cap.
what gorgeous red hair, I have envy.
I couldn't agree more, and this series of beautiful photos proves it. We all seek the words and meanings behind a visual concept, so we could relate ourselves to it and find some empathy. Great post
So true - wonderful post.
Beautiful marketing! I like that, when something commersial actually touches my feelings and sense for the esthetically pleasing!
Absolutely wonderful advice...us social beings love a story! Beautiful clothes! A-M xx
interesting thoughts, I had never thought of it that way......makes sense though.

Your're spot on with your marketing insight. Everyone loves a product more if there's a story behind it. These are great photographs - they did a lovely job.
I definitely agree! I'm a sucker for a story, always. :)
Beautiful pictures and i love her life too, have been ages since I sat on a bicycle..I should really, kicking start and moving 1st gear on the exercise part. Have a great weekend :D
Great post, good food for thought, and I agree.
(Also, I want cool girl's hair!)
