I lost Sunday somewhere in the weekend, so I'm going to pretend today is Sunday and share a fun vintage find. On Sunday I pretty much did nadda. Besides nursing a slight hangover (what can I say - the amaretto drinks were sooo good) I ate, slept, watched hotness on Burn Notice, and slept more. Maybe it was the week catching up with me? Who am I kidding - it was the late night tacos and yummy, yet painful the next day drinks. My body knows it's not in college anymore and continues to mock me, "don't even front like you can stay up late and drink...you can't...you are pseudo professional now." Well, another headache and lesson learned.
On to my pretend Sunday vintage find - this late 1950's record player and index box used for record storage. My Mom found this at a yard sale and went nuts - it reminded her of one she had as a teenage. The player even works! Who would have thought this little record player would last so long - can we say the same about our current CD players?

That is the best find EVER! Wow! What a score! I had one of those when I was little. It was built into a little case and was all girlie. I loved it so much!
Let's go to the hop, oh baby, let's go to the hop.
Love it. Great finds Pleasie girl.
i really miss having a record player and LOVE your find. i had two of those index boxes and they were so cute - blue + red. sorry your body was "mocking you", but you sure are cute about it.
Seems like the record player touches many hearts! Oh yes, the mocking body!
That is SO cool! Takes me back to my little girl days! I'd love to hear that play - just for kicks!
I adore records -- my boyfriend shares the love and has a really cool record player (and tons of great records) -- this is an amazing find!
That reminds me of a record player I had! Used to play my mom's old 45s... had we known technology would change and our players would become antiques... I would be showing you a photo of my prize record player... LOVE IT!
love, love, love! i had one of these and spent many happy hours making my matchbox cars do laps on a braided rug and listening to the cumberland gap on my little player over and over.
great find!
What a great find!!!
Ahh the mocking body! I feel your pain. Time definitely makes its presence known doesn't it? Ugh.
ahhhahaha! Sorry to laugh, but my body teases me like that too :)
Love the record player.
We used to stay up so late in the architecture studio during college. I still have a difficult time going to bed early. I guess my mind is still working on a project. And then I soooo feel it the next day- blah! I like your record-vintage-find pics. Yes, why don't CD players last these days?
love it.
that's so awesome it still works. and it comes with records!!! OMG, thrift stores are so awesome for records. i found a billy jean michael jackson one for 50 cents :)
OMG I love it. And no, unfortunately... we can't say the same for our CD players. :(
What an awesome find......I wish I still had the one I owned as a kid!
excellent find...
I had a horrifying hangover ( my 4th wedding anniversay ).
I didn't watch the hotness on Burn Notice though ( boo hoo ). I watched the "Rachel Zoe Project" instead.
I've lost many Sundays to the hangover, sad to say. Such a terrible illness. I hope one day they find a way to prevent it--other than not drinking.
Great vintage find!
And thanks for stopping by my blog!
Now that you mention it, I am kind of getting in to Burn Notice, although I haven't seen all the episodes. I'm happy for Jeffrey Donovan; it seems like he's had a few misses but this show fits him perfectly.
It's so sad that today's technology is either quickly obsolete or not lasting like this record player. You must get your eye for greatness from your Mom!
Oh, I love those boxed record players! I spent many hours listening to Strawberry Shortcake records on mine... sigh. I miss my childhood.
perfect finds as always!
I used to play with something just like this at my Grandma's house when I was little! I think it belonged to my Mom when she was a kid. Wow! Haven't thought about that in years. What a great find!
I still have my singles and albums, and a record player in the basement.
Gill from Canada
So fun! Love it! Kind of makes me want to throw a party with lots of fun vintage music ;-)
oh this is such a great + fun find. love it.
and i too wish today was sunday. weekends go by way to fast.
Great great memories.... of listing to the tunes while in my dorm room at NIU in DeKalb Illinois.... 323 Neptune
ooohh... i remember growing up with one of these in the seventies. my very first 45 was "you're no good" by linda ronstadt followed by "love will keep us together" by captain & tennille.
I can totally see why your Mom went nuts - it is a fabulous find! It sounds like your evening our was a blast...It is funny how our bodies can't handle what they once could. I have a really hard having more than two drinks for fear of a massive hangover.
That is so cute! I saw one the other day in the thrift shop but it was missing it's needle. Wondering now if I should have gotten it anyway!
Oh, these are FAB! Let's toast our pseudo-professionalism over one too many cocktails, shall we?
Bloody Marys and cheese, my friend. Nothin' like it;)
good for you! i need a do nothing kind of day BADLY. and that record player is so sweet. wasn't everything in the 1950s so much cooler??
Great find! I have my mothers old record box, just like the one in the picture, from the 1950's! I wanted an old fashioned, suitcase style record player, too, but I wasn't having any luck finding one. Luckily, my Mom found for me, a place that sells new ones, made in the old style... and even better yet, bought me one for Christmas! (Aren't mothers nice!?!)
what a great find! and i'm right there with you on the hang-over situation...no matter how many times i tell myself i can't just bounce back like i'm 21 after a night of drinking, it never stops me from having too many lemon drop martinis!
bf played his records for me the other day and the sound is phenomenal.
Love it!!! Fun find!
that's lots of fun..i remember seeing and having those many moons ago!!
What a totally groovy Mum you must have! I give you no sympathy for your weekend inflictions... fancy being able to sleep and then eat and then SLEEP again. I can't remember the last time I slept in the day... I am soooo jealous (those damn kids!!) Sounds like it was a good night and hey at least it was only a headache... it could have been much worse... I think I vaguely remember those days!!! Have a great week now that your hangover is gone. A-M xx
Its fabulous! I love it. BTW I was sympathetic with the recent dental work, not so much with the hangover. Still, beats a night at home with the telly though, doesn't it?
I've been out of college (gasp) 17 years and I still try to pretend my body can do the same things it did in college!
I love the record player. I had one that was handed down to me by my (much:) older sisters. I remember my first 45's, that I bought for myself...Ebony and Ivory and Pressure...What was I thinking?! I like neither songs today.
Don't worry...wasn't looking for hungover sympathy - just thought it was a funny story!
Very funny post (sorry to laugh at your expense. Hangovers are so much harder as grown ups, n'est pas?). I would love (and use!) a find like deJAY (and I heart that logo.). Fabulous!
Don't worry, I'm not giving you any hangover sympathy. I never receive any so why should others! ;D I LOVE that record player! Great find! I want it! A friend has one similar to that one & I keep nagging him to sell it to me. I've been nagging for about 5 years now. He MUST surely crack one day soon...
Oh my...what a gem. It's a.d.o.r.a.b.l.e!
I was just explaining "record albums" to my seven year old the other day and telling her how we used to play our records on the higher rpm so that all the singers sounded like "the chipmunks". I would LOVE to find one of these!
