Head Above Water

The underwater photos by Narelle Autio are breathtaking...literally and figuratively. Don't they evoke an emotional response to hold or catch your breath? The photos also emulate my recent emotions of up and down stress. Most days I feel like I'm trying to keep my head above water! On the flip side when I get stressed I like to take a minute and visualize a happy place. I know...a bit corny, a bit zen...but it helps. One of my happy places involves a jump into a cool lake. I visualize myself running off the dock and then jump high in the air and splash into the water...a refreshing rush of excitement. Must be the kid in me.

Are you keeping your head above water these days? Where do you go to escape?

Oh...and isn't the shark tattoo a perfect detail to the photo? They also remind me of dream sequence screenshots in a movie...amazing.

Love the photos. And no. I am basically drowning these days. I have a ton on my plate. But its all good things, so that keeps me going to the top and taking a breath now and again. Just keep swimming, just keep swimming.

Gorgeous pics, and I love the shark tattoo!

Yes, I have been feeling very head above water of late. I go to one of my 3 imaginary homes to escape... I have a delightful 1930's beach bungalow, it's cool, soothing and relaxing, with great overstuffed chairs, and lots of good books...a gorgeous mid century ranch that has a great pathway in the back yard, with a small grass covered stone bridge that crosses over a small creek, on the way to my sunlit studio... and a dreamy little brick storybook house, with an arched door, hidden gardens, and old glass windows. (I actually dream in my sleep of these homes, they are so real that I am disoriented when I awake in my actual home!)

Ooooh, I especially love the shark tattoo shot. Clev-ah! And my gosh, I feel like I'm just BARELY keeping my head above water. I escape by reading fash mags while my cats sit on me, purring. What a shallow girl I've become.

They ARE like a dream sequence in a movie :) I'm such a otter baby when it comes to water. I feel most soothed and calm when I'm by water and I hear it lapping the shore. There's that other part of me that feels most at home under the water, when I've sunk to the bottom of the lake or the pool and I'm just looking around at the world under there :)

Hang in there, darling! Hang in there!

hmmm . . . feeling overwhelmed myself most days. wish i could escape to a tropical island, but usually it's just escaping into the blogoshpere. but i like it there, too.

hang in there!

i don't really know how i keep my head above water really. i try not to think of the past and/or future, and work on what is now and current. it saves me from being overwhelmed :)

i also go for a walk. it helps keep my head clear.

what amazing photos...it's funny you mention water because i've caught myself holding my breath when i'm concentrating on work under stress, i have to remind myself to breath! i think stress can be worst than not getting your work done sometimes. i escape in day dreams! & when I can I escape in travels :o)

gorgeous photos- thanks for sharing! i just love being near the water... although i was recently in calgary, alberta and saw the rocky mountains for the first time... i may very well have encountered a new favourite place!

The shark tattoo is a great detail. Keeping my head above water? I suppose it depends who you ask. ;) My happy place is snuggling on the couch with my little girl. I know as soon as I get home, that's what I'll be doing. It makes anything bearable.

Incredible pictures! Some days I definitely don't feel like my head's above water. Trying to learn to breathe underwater now... :)
I also visualise one of my happy places and strangely it does help to escape to them that way. Yours sounds lovely!

Beautiful photos- and the shark tattoo one is great!

Somedays I do feel like I'm barely keeping my head above water, but even stepping out back to play frisbee with my dogs can help me escape!

those photos are breathtaking indeed.

i can totally relate. i try to stay focused and not panic. what also helps me is to practice singing. it requires a lot of deep breathing and concentration, so it helps me relax and take my mind off my other worries.

i think i've been keeping my head above water but barely. my place of escape is in the bed under the covers..head and all. :-D

Cool pix!

I'm barely keeping my head above water in many ways, but in other ways I'm relaxing (figuratively) on the beach.

I escape in many ways, mainly away from work and in some way relaxing, not necessarily exhilarating or anything.
