Labyrinths

Do you guys remember the movie Labyrinth? Seriously one of my all-time favorite movies. I think I saw it a billion times as a kid, and to this day I still get excited about watching it. You can't beat David Bowie in tights and dancing puppet creatures (even though the red puppets that took their heads off still scare me). I hope you guys know what I'm talking about so you don't think I'm crazy!

So, why am I talking about labyrinths? Well, I saw these wonderful photos of the 10 Most Incredible Mazes and Labyrinths on Inspire Me, Now and got very excited. Not only did it fuel my childhood movie obsession, but the beauty and complexity of each maze is amazing. I would be ok with getting lost in these...maybe even David Bowie will come find me **hehe**

Oh, one of my all-time favourites too! A somewhat bizarre rite of passage story isn't it? But, as you say, who can resist David Bowie, a cute baby, a cast of fantasy creatures, and a labyrinth?! Excellent stuff...
Very cool photographs - thank you! :)

I LOVED THAT MOVIE!

And the fact that the baby wore stripes and David Bowie wore eye makeup.

I've always thought it would be cool to make my own tiny garden labyrinth .

Of course I remember it, it's only one of the greatest of ALL TIME :)
Did you ever see "Pan's Labyrinth"? That was a goodie too.

OMG-what an awesome movie! :) I actually saw some of the puppets recently at a Jim Henson exhibit. I going to do a post on it soon. It was so cool to see them up close.

Oh how cool! I have always wanted to 'get lost' in a maze like this!

the second one is neat because we can see the scale of the hedges in relation to the people. also, it looks like something is crawling within the hedges.

I didn't see Labyrinth until I was in college, so the charm was lost on me. I think it's one of those movies that you have to grow up with in order to appreciate!

I love mazes too. I'm a sucker for any story that has a maze in it! But my fascination predates seeing Labyrinth ...

English gardens and giant box hedges make me happy even with the maze element.

the photo is just too beautiful. and i really like those simple decor ideas.

I meant, withOUT the maze element.

You are now reading the comment of a sad Labyrinth addict! When we were kids we would continuously borrow it from the video shop until Mum finally bought us a copy.... and now as an adult I own the collectors DVD AND the soundtrack to sing to in the car on long drives .... I so should not have admitted all that! Oh well....

Love those pictures though - fascinating to see them from the birds eye view xx

If you've never walked a labyrinth before it should definitely go on your to-do list!!

i never saw the movie, but my husband did and likes it!

but i still can appreciate the incredible work of these gardens! wow. i think it would be fun to just get lost in one of those for a while.

Would you believe me if I told you I used to work for a crazy woman who looked EXACTLY like David Bowie in this movie? I did! Anyway, yes! I love Labyrinth and I also have a bit of an obsession with super manicured, surreal looking gardens, mazes, and the like. There's just something about a tree shaped like a cone. So I love this link! Thank you!

amazing. and yeah, I talked to David, he's on his way to find you right after he gets back from his Thanksgiving holiday so sit tight :)

I love Mazes! Always had a dream of growing one. I've heard about a Maize maze which would be quicker to grow that a hedge one!

I love these images. My older son went to a preschool adjacent to a large cathedral, and once a year they set up a big labyrinth. I believe that walking through a labyrinth is an ancient form of meditation.

What about "The Shining" - remember the snow covered labyrinth?

GREAT pictures!! Last summer, my husband and I walked a Labyrinth that some church friends created along Lake Michigan. Since then, we've been chatting about making one in our church's garden. It is such a relaxing activity.

i loved that movie, but i must confess, i was a bit scared by it as a child!

those mazes are awesome i know. I actually saw gardeners doing that exact science trimming when I was living in France. I'll tell you they are true artisans.

Victoria said...

These are great, especially the bottom one, those shrubs look so soft! Years ago, I remember walking through one somewhere in France, and around where I live they plow giant mazes in the corn fields each year.

Unknown said...

i'd love to be in that first one. although i'm sure at some point i'd begin to panic and think someone was after me...

So freakin' cool! And, yes, I totally remember the movie. For some reason I remember being scared by it though!
