Vintage paint-by-numbers. They are part kitsch, part fun and even part borderline crazy. But, when you put a bunch of them together they make a pretty neat display wall. I was originally inspired by the paint-by-numbers wall in Dan's house featured on OK Great, and then I found other interesting wall arrangements on Flickr. To make your own paint-by-numbers wall check out eBay, Etsy store moxiethrift or keep a look at during your next fleamarket trip.
What do you think? Would you start a vintage paint-by-numbers wall?

I love these. I have a friend who collects them and they look amazing in her house.
I LOVE paint by numbers!
Thanks for the trackback! You should totally add us to your blogroll. We luh you.
i wish i still had the ones i made as a kid. i think they look great, love no. 3 and those last two are calling out to me!
Oh I would love to see them too!
that's a lot of art. very cool, almost looks like one big painting (2nd image)
fantastic! love this post!
i think a wall is perfectly in order, the wonderfully kitschy element is too great to ignore. i remember receiving these kits as a child and being horribly frustrated because i had a much different interpretation of color theory than the instructions gave.
Oh totally. I love the mauve room display the best. I hope you are on the mend these days!
Oh I just had to comment. I 'love' paint-by-number, and have a few pieces displayed in my home. The photos you have posted are really awesome! Nice blog!
they look amazing! maybe i should start a new hobbie!
oofah. the art snob in me is aghast, but i'll just tell her to stop being a kill joy already.
I love it!! I totally think I would do it!
Always such goodness here on your lovely blog! xo
i love paint by number
This has been on my list of to-do's for some time. After seeing these great pics my determination has been re-invigorated! Time to start collecting!
Yes Yes! I love this! And I am into the clever bike storage!
I love the top one especially--I am really into the idea of covering a wall claustrophobically with images like that. Frames are for sissies!
These rooms rock. Even more than the walls, I love that crazy hanging bike!
I wish I still had all the paint by numbers I've done in my life! Thanks for the reminder about them - I should get one for Abbott and see if he likes it.
En masse... how swell they look!
Have just sent you an email. It's a gmail address isn't it? Please email me at: sales@armchairtrader.com.au if you don't hear from me. Does that all make sense?? A-M xx
how fun! i'd totally do it, although ryan would kill me, he'd think it was so tacky. i think it looks amazing!
These images completely sell the idea. I never would have thought...but I love it.
I've seen this idea for a while now and really like it. I think it is great that something that was once thought silly (painting by numbers) can be used in such a fantastic decor style. Nice finds. Have a Happy Weekend.
I use to do this when I was young girl. I should have saved them!
Have a golden weekend! xoxo
ooh glad you loved my ok great post :) more of this today on mint - i contacted dan and he's shared more photos of his beautiful house.
I'd love a wall full! So pretty and packed with color without looking kitschy. Love it.
I'm not sure if I would, maybe if I had a bigger space! I like the bike hanging in the living room though, not sure why!
So fun - would love to have a wall like this in my home!
so funny, kitsch was exactly the word that popped into my mind before i read your commentary!
Great wall i love it!
Have a nice weekend :)
Oh, I would soooo totally do this! In fact, I have about a half a dozen of these cuties in waiting, just haven't taken the plunge to hang them. I'm all over that wall with the bike in the photo, I think, with something like these going all out is the way to go!
These are crazy fun! Happy weekend to you.
ABSOLUTELY ! I wish I had the numerous "paintings" that I had as a child.
Lovely, lovely, lovely!
Oh my gosh, I absolutely love the gallery by the staircase-- it looks incredible!
So funny i was just eyeing paint by numbers paintings too. Awesome. Love. So freaking cool. Great post.
every few months or so, i get a craving to collect these and i always get outbid on my favorite ebay ones!! and then i give up. and then i see a post like this and i want 'em all over again!
This makes me want to do one!
absolutely so cool, happy weekend Diana
they look great here but I think they would need the right space to work
: )
Oh, these post brought an overwhelming feeling of nostalgia. I think it is such a cute idea--however, mine would still look like I was 6! :)
Love 'em! I'm going to the big SF Bay area antiques fair tomorrow and paintings like this are one of the things on my 'hope I find some' list! That and unique one-off teacups and saucers...
Ha!! I just saw a couple of lighthouse paint by numbers today. Unfortunately the mister was with me and he did not share my joy. :-) The photos you've collected here are fabulous!!
I like it, but I'm not sure my husband would. I never see them in the thrift either!
i've always wanted to hang my bike like that. maybe i will!

woaahh love those walls!
i love this. i did a half-ass search a while back, but these lovely pics might just get me motivated for real. thanks for the post!
These are SO fun!! I would totally enjoy starting a paint-by-numbers wall.
oh how i love art walls!
Oh wow, you're right. Put it all together and it works:)
arg!
I used to collect PBNs in college. At the peak I had over 25 vintage framed pieces. It wasn't until I met my now live in life partner (who isnt a fan) that me and the pbns parted ways. I've slowly gifted them and sold them on ebay. Its such an exciting piece of americana to collect. They look great hung salon style.
The photos you posted are excellent examples of collecting and displaying done well.
Awesome! I adore paint-by-numbers but they are hard to find in my area. I have bought kits to just paint my own but I had forgotten what a pain they are. Mixing colors in those tiny pots for those hard to see little spots...ack!
love moxie thrift! there are LOTS of Etsy vintage sellers that have pbn's in stock regularly, do check them out as well. and, yes, I would put together a pbn wall if I could find enough vintage frames to make it look respectable. anyone know a source for dating/identifying pbns?
thanks for the great photos and links!
