Vintage Compacts

After seeing the top photograph from the Lily + Jae collection I was inspired to do a little research into vintage compact cases. I was instantly attracted to the various shapes, sizes and motifs once used to create these charming compacts. They were more than just convenient makeup in pretty packaging...they were an accessory. I wonder how products would look if we treated them more as an accessory versus a disposable necessity. Hmm...maybe more sustainable, quality built items in environmental packaging?

So beautiful! It seems like packaging & products themselves used to have much more thought & love put into them. Collectible, sustainable & decorative!

I couldn't agree more. I also love that you used the word collectible. So true! After years these items are still functional, beautiful and desirable. It's hard to say that about current products. I guess that's why I love vintage so much!

Yes! It would be so wonderful to somehow be able to get my powder, etc refilled in a reusable, beautiful container rather than buying a new item every time.

Ah, I love these. They take me back to the days of haunting my grandmother's makeup drawer. They did it right back then! xoxo

Happy New Year my friend.

Definitely less plastic and more eyecandy-esque. So feminine. Very lovely.

they are so special because often they were from grandma. they had it good in many ways when it comes to design. things were special unlike today when so many things are disposable.

Have you ever heard of Andrea Garland? She repurposes old compacts, cleans them out and fills them with new organic lipbalm. Once you buy one you can send it back for refills when you've used up the balm!

I was lucky to find a couple of these myself in an antique market and for $1 each. They were thrown in these boxes of mixed things. I was amaze when I saw them! They're just treasures. What a neat idea Dana comments above!!

So very much from a bygone era. They are gorgeous. My mother had a compact like these. I am unsure whether it was hers, or whether it came from another family member. She used it, but I haven't seen it out when visiting her like I used to as a child. I must ask her about it.

I have one of my grandmothers old compacts. I used it for years and now have it laying in a box or drawer somewhere. This reminds me that I should have it out on display... maybe on her old dresser that is now my own. Thanks for the reminder.
