50s Proper Fashion

If I could afford it...I would rock Anthropologie's 50s Proper outfits every single day. I mostly try to avoid ultra-trendy fashion pieces because they look bad on my petite height and I don't want to pay for something I can't or shouldn't wear next season. Sorry fashionistas...you ladies are brave and believe me...I commend you deeply! But I do love these preppy-chic-retro looks because they are timeless and classic. And dare I say...they could actually hang around in your closet for several seasons and still be fashionable. Now...if only I could splurge on the buttercup aconite tote and olive draped pumps!

What's your ultimate fashion look?

Oooh, these looks are right up my alley. 40s and 50s styles are my favorites, for sure.

I love that belted jacket and skirt outfit, so, so much. Anthropologie nailed it with these looks.

Love these looks. I definitely line my closet deeply with basic "uniform" pieces that I renew seasonally. The trends I just keep as the icing on top!

I spent over an hour on Anthropologie's site the other night drooling over these pieces. #2 and #4 are perfect. I want them so bad.

I think I was born in the wrong era! I'd dress like that every day if I could afford to ...maybe with dainty hats & gloves too :)

Oh my God I can totally relate, I've bookmarked practically every page in the most recent catalog, while cringing at the price tag.

Oh, my, no. Skirts were never that short in the '50s. Take it from one who was there as a teenager. Great clothes, though, just not mid-century authentic.

If I could afford it and if they'd ship to Australia, oh sigh!

Ohh I'm so jealous you already bought the pumps...but glad to hear they are nice in person.

I love the 50's look and the Anthropologie styling is brilliant, but it's not always the most comfortable thing and I find waist belts to be bit restricting. So for comfort, right now, I find that the 20's silhouette is much on target with what I want wear, lots of jersey knits, soft looser fitting tops and knee length skirts.

dying for these outfits...

I, too, am no fashionista, and instead favor more classic, time-worn pieces that actually look good on me. I feel like what's trendy nowadays tends to suit one body shape only: the impossibly tall, lithe model.
