Mie Kongo

Mie Kongo Studio creates hand-made porcelain cups that are lovely and functional. The cup part is designed by Mie Kongo and the handles are vintage molds. An extensive process is used to go from the original and larger vintage piece to the size needed for the cup. Here's a great example...Mie Kongo says, "the cardinal bird was originally about 6" long. The porcelain slip shrinks 16%, and after the process of casting of casting of casting...11 times, it shrunk down to this size." Check out the amazing progression by clicking here. Don't you just love the vintage animals and splash of colors?!
