Simple Holiday Decorating

Holidays, what?! Isn't it happening so fast? I do enjoy the holiday season, but I never feel quite ready for it. My approach is to stay in denial about Christmas until after Thanksgiving. But, I know some of you clever and productive readers are already getting their holiday decorating on...so here are a few quick ideas. Even the wait-to-the-last-minute-family-coming-over-in-an-hour-for-holiday-dinner people can pull these off...speaking from experience of course. Check out the Five-Minute Holiday Decorating Ideas at Real Simple. I love that these tips utilize everyday objects and are charming, not overly holiday cheesed out. Don't you think the mittens are a cute touch?

Do you decorate for the holidays? Got any simple ideas or tips?

Vintage Find

Hello hello...did you have a good weekend? I'm excited because it's Thanksgiving week, which means I'm only going to work two days - yesss! Oh, and of course the whole family and turkey time time too. Yum.

Here's another addition to the vintage finds category...these lovely framed birdies found at a local fleamarket. I'm not sure how "vintage" they are, but they have that great kitsch feel. The wooden frames also add a special touch. I photographed the frames on an amazing patch of moss growing in Dave's yard. I thought the dark green moss was a great accent, and I love the way moss feels...all squishy and soft. Wouldn't it be neat to have a moss covered wall? Hmm...don't think the landlord would like that.

To a fun and festive week ahead...

Moments

The weekend is here...enjoy it. Take your moments and have them...like these images by the talented Anna Krachey. The cupcake photo is my favorite. To me, it sums up one of those good / bad days. Where your day is bad and hectic, and your pen blows up on your pants or food drops on your shirt...you look down...and all you can do is curse and laugh (while grabbing your Tide-to-Go pen). And still at the end of the day you smile...because a spilt cupcake is better than no cupcake at all.

Happy Weekend...

Inspiring Interiors

Wary Meyers has probably made rounds on the blogosphere, but I couldn't resist especially after seeing this bedroom photo on ffffound! I love the crazy colors and the sporadic, yet organized placement of objects and patterns. The feeling is fun and exciting while still having a sense of home and comfort. And how about the radiator in the bathroom? Oh and that closet?! I want paper lanterns and a window in my closet!

On a side note, it snowed here in N.C. this morning...I was pleasantly surprised! A nice little Friday treat...if only work had snow days...

Gravity & Structure

Isn't this amazing? I'm on an art kick today and I love the sculptures by Alyson Shotz. Ethereal and gorgeous. The top work, titled Allusion of Gravity, is constructed of clear glass beads and steel wire. The other work is a mixed media piece titled Crystalline Structure. I'm mesmerized by the details and amazing craftsmanship. I would love to see these in person. Please sir can they float in my room?

Organic Imagery

If you're new to Please Sir, first off - welcome! I always enjoy meeting a new reader. Secondly, you'll probably notice I don't carry a consistent theme of posts. It's a mix of what I'm feeling that day whether it's pretty things, interiors, fashion or art. Inspiration is everywhere and I like bringing that idea to Please Sir. Call it a desire to be well-rounded, a scattered brain, or just darn curious...I'm all of the above. I hope you enjoy the random and evolving nature of ideas and inspiration. So glad to have you here...

Ok, onto the good stuff like the amazing work by Cara Enteles. In her paintings she "explores predator/prey relationships within nature as well as the effects of man’s destructive actions on the natural world." I can see her concept through the contrast of colors and textures, yet the work still maintains a pleasing and natural fluidity. Check out more here and be sure to read the interesting information on her work. Thoughts?

Romantic Layers

As far as decor...I'm not really a frou-frou, romantic type of gal. Sure I love romance - the cuddling and swooning, but when it comes to styling I'm a bit more kitsch, vintage and even modern. Yet, I can appreciate a romantic layer added to a room like in these photographs by Tom Baker. They remind me that it's nice to add a touch of pink and a dash of feminine wallpaper. Oh and I had to post the screened-in porch - you're welcome Mom (she is a screen porch fanatic)!
