Trash and everyday objects are getting a second glance with paintings by artist Justin Allen. In his artist statement, Allen strives for his work to have "the luminous and intimate quality of early Flemish paintings" and he hopes to "place mundane artifacts in the same spiritual frame as an icon or religious scene." Allen's work inspires me to look beyond the obvious, and I appreciate artists who bring new life and perspective to ordinary objects and possessions.
From his Disposable Wonder Collection (top to bottom): Red Grill, Inflatable Pool, and Green Trashcan on Side.
From Allen's Basement Afterlife collection: Couch and Exercise Bike.
