If you're ever in North Carolina...go to the beach. That is exactly what I'm doing this weekend! The beaches of N.C. are a treat for your senses. Here are some pictures of my last visit to the Outer Banks. Above the Bodie Lighthouse in all its glory.
On your drive down to the beach you will encounter lots of random, little shops...some selling peanuts, others selling antiques. 
The Outer Banks is famously known for the wild horses that roam the beach in an enclosed, protected wildlife refuge. Many believe the horses were brought to the Outer Banks as early as 1523 by Spanish explorers. The horses have been there ever since and live among the locals and tourists. You are not allowed to ride, feed, or go near them (for their protection - thank goodness), but they are a unique and beautiful site to see on the beach.
And the houses at Outer Banks? Really crazy, beautiful, and even a bit over-commercialized. Can you imagine what all those rooms are filled with? Quite possible the new coastal collection at Pottery Barn.
The sand dollar bedding and coral candleholders are lovely. All this beach inspiration has me excited for the weekend ahead...now if only I can finish packing!

i haven't been to that part of the country, and my friend from virginia says that she and her family sometimes go to those beaches and it's supposedly quite lovely.

Oh have so much fun! My dad spent a week on Okracoke Island (sp?) this past summer and he wouldn't shut up about it for a month! I want to go so bad!!

Gasp - that house is over the top! Do they have 25 children?!? I have heard fantastic things about North Carolina, I would love to visit some day. It's on my list.

Ooooohhhh...I've been in my own little world lately and missed those Pottery Barn candle holders (amazing...since I get the catalog every 5 to 6 days :-). Thanks for the heads up! Heading to PB ASAP.
