The Candy Factory

Hectic Monday, but at least I can re-cap the fun weekend here on Please Sir! Yesterday you got a taste for sweets courtesy of The Candy Factory in Lexington, N.C. My Mom and I decided to check out the uptown Lexington antique scene and found this wonderful gem.

Here's the history - "The Candy Factory first opened its doors on July 10, 1978 in the front area of Piedmont Candy Company, a wholesale manufacturer of pure sugar stick candy and mint puffs. Owner and second-generation candy maker, Robert Ebelein sold his homemade fudge and peanut brittle along with his company's signature products from this first storefront. Attracted by the store's turn-of-the century décor, customers asked to buy antiques displayed in the store, so Robert and his wife Frances made the rounds of auctions and flea markets seeking antiques to offer in addition to their candy products. The business was an immediate success. Needing more space for candy and antiques, the Ebeleins bought the circa 1907 Lexington Hardware building on Main Street, renovated the store and opened for business. The Candy Factory retail store is still owned by the Ebeleins' three daughters."

Goodness...this place is SO fun and photography heaven. I also had the pleasure of meeting one of the lovely Ebelein daughters. You could tell she loved her job - why would you not?! Anybody that sells FruitStripe gum is good in my book!

Check out The Candy Factory online - the Nostalgic Sampler is my favorite and would make a great gift.

Sugar Daddies! Bane of my teeth, joy of my mouth. It looks like a great place (and I just love those vintage thermoses ... just in time for back to school nostalgia trips... )

Yipes stripes, that's a lot of candy! I do believe the store should be called "candy heaven" instead...looks like so much fun!

Mmm, mint puffs, I love those, and I see Baseball Taffy, which my grandma always used to buy us, didn't think they still made those. And Sugar Daddy - ooh, my teeth hurt just at the thought of all that sugar -- yum!

FruitStrip gum was my second favorite, next to the Tiny Size Chicklets. (I have to mention Razzles, too!)

I remember going through a whole pack of FruitStripes within half an hour because the flavor, which was awesome, went away so fast.

Now that's a place I so want to visit! Wish there was something around like that where I'm living. Perhaps it's best there isn't though...
