Carved Wax & Paper

The breathtaking pieces by Jolynn Krystosek are made from cut paper and carved wax. Yes, that is wax...can you believe it?! My head is still spinning too. The work reminds me of romantic cameos with a fresh and modern twist. Krystosek also goes the extra step in properly displaying the artwork, as seen with the re-enforced wooden holders. I feel presentation is so important in distinguishing professional artists and their work. Krystosek's wax pieces are a perfect example since the wooden holders don't take away from the pieces, but instead they compliment and complete the work.

How do you feel about presentation? Does the extra effort pay off for you?

All I can say is wow...I don't even notice the presentation. There is so much detail that overpowers it.

That's so funny, I was actually thinking about posting about packaging today! I think presentation says so much about an artist's work. I'm really needing to bump my packaging up a notch!

Wow - I'd love to see these in person. I wonder if they have the beautiful beeswax smell.

And I think presentation is key - key! Anything the eye can see is important.

Insane! Just beautiful. Given the medium, I'm afraid to see what happens if it gets too hot in the room, though! :-)

Presentation means a lot to me. Even if I'm buying on etsy or at a local crafty fair...I'm always drawn to the things that are displayed the best.

i would like to think that generally speaking, substance should take precedent over presentation. but i do think that presentation is a large factor, especially with more creative folk. besides, there is so much competition, that everything counts. i think this is why stylists, designers, advertisers and marketers are in a thriving industry. a good example would be target. it pretty much sells the same thing as other big box retailers, but it has excellent store environments, marketing and design departments that make even everyday mediocre things look a bit more special. i used to work as a designer for a large big box retailer as well, and we'd look to other successful retailers with excellent presentation for inspiration.

anyway, my comment is very long winded.

and gosh, those cuts and carvings are beautiful.

Whoah, this is really impressive! I think presentation means a lot and counts for a lot. They say first impressions really count, and I totally find that to be true in most cases.

They are amazing. But they make me feel a bit stressed out looking at them - I could never do something with so much fine detail. Very impressive indeed.

So lovely and fragile. I find myself inexplicably thinking of overcast November afternoons in Iceland.

Amazing work! Wax? Gosh! Presentation is very important to me. The way in which something is displayed, and also the way things are packaged. I always appreciate thoughtful touches to presentation.

Sometimes presentation may not matter, however... by paying attention to those extra little details, it can really make a difference.

I am still in shock that this is all wax... amazing!
