Vacation in Scotland

I know the interiors by Suzy Hoodless have made rounds on the blogosphere, but I couldn't resist posting this wonderful ski lodge in Scotland. So, how about another look for wintry sakes?

I first noticed the newspapered ceilings and then the proud display of old, torn furniture. The unexpected and magical spaces would be perfect for snuggling up and getting lost for awhile. This is not the type of design I would want for everyday living, but it's a great look for a vacation or retreat home. Although all the animal rugs are a little bit scary. I never got into the animal rug trend - is it something that grows on you with time?

What's your take - would you like to rest your weary ski legs in this lodge?

We have a cabin in the deep woods that reminds me of this scene. I personally love it. Those crates bring back some college memories too. I didn't know I was so hip back then. :)

lovely - although I agree with you on the animal rugs, shudder...

when I was a kid, my dad inherited a 200 year old grandfather clock. The strands that the weights hung from were catgut. Catgut! I had a lot of nightmares involving that thing.

This seems like just the place I need to take a break from life. I wish I could hide out here until next semester is over!

Oh my gosh - catgut? WHAT?!

I love the beds tucked into nooks.

I do like the animal rugs, but I am a freak for interesting texture. And I grew up in a house with lots of taxidermied things, so it doesn't bother me.

Wow. Undeniably cozy, that's for sure! And since I don't (read: can't) ski, I'd be spending a lot of time inside in front of the fire with some sort of alcoholic drink. ;) Oh -- I'd have my husband roll up and hide the rugs upon arrival.

i think i'd skip skiing all together and go straight to the cabin, make a hot pot of coffee, light a fire and read a good book - i want to be there now!

Definitely. Reminds me of an ex-BF's cabin in upstate NY, actually ... many fond memories of that place in winter.

Definitely vacation material. And I wonder if animal rugs become infinitely more appealing when you are somewhere absolutely freezing cold. They probably feel good under your frozen toes.

I adore the bunk beds. So beautifully made.

keep Suzy Hoodless posts coming! i could never grow tired of her work!

i'd so stay in that lodge. it looks very comfortable and like the kind of place where you don't have to worry about tracking in a little snow or keeping it too pristine.

I'm SO in the minority, that has zero appeal to me. I'm all for cozy, but it just seems dismal and I think I'd be skeeved to sit on the upholstery. Just my two cents...

I'm also no fan of animal skin rugs!

These rooms seem too dark for Scotland in the winter, where there are so few hours of sunlight a day. But I'm not really a hunting-lodge-type person!

The newspaper ceiling is fun!

I NEVER tire of her stuff. These make me want to run away with a rugged highlander and make sweet sweet nookie with him in one of those bunk beds! and then we'd go for a stroll on the open plains of heather, skinny dip in a stream, then come back for some oat biscuits by the fire before heading back to bed. maybe i was a scottish milkmaid in a past life?

Answer: Yes, yes, yes, yes, YES! :-)

I would totally stay here. Live here. Whatever! The thought of skiing and returning home to this makes me want to book a ski trip right this minute.

Nope. Not for me. I require a 6" thick comforter on the bed after skiing- at a minimum. And the rugs? Bad karma.

I love this, love this, love this :) They are incredibly moody! :)

Love Suzy Hoodless, but I still think these rooms are scary... like, something that goes bump in the night lives there.

Ahh! My living room is set up eerily similar to the second photo (the wooden crate shelves over the radiator) - our walls are a burnt orange though, so there's less of that rustic feel...

Does said vacation come with a cute kilted Scottsman? :) Looks great with or without though...LOL

I would certainly rest my vacationing head here! It looks like a perfect winter vacation getaway- somewhere to cozy up from the cold outside!
