Autumn

I would take autumn any day over the frigid winter temperatures and icy pathways currently covering the east coast. I would also love to walk in the woods and quietly discover the installation Autumn by Loren Schwerd. Found in Sumter, South Carolina the installation contains lines composed by Sumter author, Julia Mood Peterkin, for her controversial 1928 novel, Scarlet Sister Mary. Meant to describe the landscape of South Carolina in the fall, the text reads:

"The morning air was filled with delicious scents. Ripe leaves, fragrant weeds, fresh cotton blossoms and the breath of the dark red earth itself. Summer was over."

Isn't it beautiful? Here's to a ripe (and warm) weekend ahead...

This is such a beautiful idea! I would also like to trade my current weather (sweltering heat) for autumn.

Wow-this is AMAZING! It reminds me of the work of an artist who use to live here in Florida: Nestor Gill (also a great installation artist). Beautiful concept.
