Twenty Ten

I love water as an analogy to life...can you tell? The idea of taking a deep breath, diving, submersing oneself, drowning out the noise and feeling weightless. The paintings by Eric Zener illustrate the joy of water and the desire to incorporate those blissful feelings into daily life. If we are willing to happily dive into a body of water, then why not into a big project or life change? We don't question the fear or dissect the outcome of a dive...we just do it (with a big smile no less). Why can't life be as simple as a summer's dive?

This particular painting, titled safety net, resonates with my thoughts for the new year. Big leaps or small jumps...successful or failed...will still end with you being ok. Let's take a dive in 2010...or if you're clumsy like me...a damn good cannonball.

Are you kidding me that that's a painting? I literally just put my nose thisclose to the screen to verify that it wasn't a photograph. Absolutely amazing!! Happy new year to you, sweet Diana:) xo

This is always a struggle for me. I've never been very good at taking leaps - just too practical for my own good sometimes. Last year was the year of the leap and it did me good. I'm trying to continue on this year.

Me too! I'm such a water baby and understanding myself as having water-like properties and water being a metaphor for life comes very naturally (I'm also a Cancerian so it makes sense that I'm this way). I made some major dives in the last decade, but now I want to work on my stroke... going steady and consistent and not just making big splashes and then recovering from them.

Love all your feedback - and yes, I agree...strong strokes are just as important!

Because a life changing or a project building doesn't always work the weightlessness, it doesn't always feel smooth to the touch, and the noise is sometimes so loud your head explodes. If only we could find a way for everything to feel as awesome as a tea party at the bottom of the deep end. Maybe you have? If you have indeed found the way to endless summer skinny dippin you are better than I.

great painting
